A traditional three o'clock, Saturday afternoon kick-off for Celtic as they host St Johnstone. Celtic come into this having won their previous three games, scoring two goals in each of them. St Johnstone are hoping to make amends after a heavy 3-0 defeat, at home to Livingston.
Although the game got off to a slow start, it became a typical Celtic home display as they controlled the game throughout.
Saint's goalkeeper Zander Clark would come to rescue as he blocked a well driven 25 yard shot from Celtic captain Callum McGregor that sped through a busy penalty box.
On the 34th minute, Celtic full-back Josip Juranovic had a shot from outside the box, deflected high into the air. In what should have been an easy clearance for St Johnstone's Callum Booth, he missed the ball, allowing Anthony Ralston to pounce on it and put in the cross for Giakoumakis to tap in his first Celtic goal.
St Johnstone had a couple of chances at the start of the second half, with McCart heading a corner over the crossbar.
On the 60th minute, Giakoumakis was replaced by Mikey Johnston, who was returning from injury. This allowed Kyogo to return to the central role.
There was a penalty shout for Celtic on the 74th minute when Saint's goalkeeper Clark tangled with Jota on the byline, but the referee wasn't interested.
Tempers began to flare up when Celtic's Carter-Vickers and Saint's Chris Kane clashed, with both being booked for their troubles.
A tackle on Kyogo by Gordon, would award Celtic a penalty on the 80th minute.
Full-back Juranovic sent Clark the wrong way to make it 2-0 and secure the points.
Sub Mikey Johnston hit the woodwork with a fine curling shot from the edge of the box at the end.
A dominant display by The Hoops, having 79% possession, with a 90% pass success rate. Celtic also had 20 shots, with their own goalkeeper, Joe Hart not having one save to make.
